In a multi-faceted collaboration with Tinicum Conservancy and the Appalachian Mountain Club, Bridgeton Township (our neighbor to the North) completed the historic purchase of this 103-acre property in 2019. A defunct quarry that had sat abandoned for nearly half a century, the property had become a refuge for a vast array of wildlife, including numerous bird species, otters, coyotes, frogs, salamanders and more. With the purchase, it is permanently protected, and now work has begun on a new 2 1/2 mile trail that will meander through the preserve’s many treasures, which include natural springs, mature woodlands, and numerous ponds. The site is close to both Ringing Rocks Park and the newly established Pennsylvania Highlands Trail, framed by the dramatic and rugged palisades to the west and the Delaware River bottomlands to the east.
Join us! On Saturday September 14th, under the expert guidance of the Pennsylvania Highlands Trail Stewards, we’ll continue clearing the way for the new trail. Tools will be provided, but please bring your own insect repellant, hard hats, work gloves, and safety glasses if you have them, otherwise we’ll have some on hand. Long pants, long sleeved shirts, and proper footwear (preferably waterproof) are recommended.
